Honing Organizational 'Empathic Acuity' Through a Trauma-Informed Lens
Businesses and organizations globally are realizing the impact of trauma in their workforces, and the importance of empathic decision making to achieving better outcomes. Both for their workers and their bottom lines. Yet, many do not know where to begin with implementing change.
Similarly, many individuals who have lived through traumatic experiences, such as incarceration and homelessness, may have difficulty interacting with mainstream workplaces. This can reduce retention rates and/or stunt career growth.
I have more than 10 years of leadership experience, and have spent the last 5 years leading and working with traumatized individuals and their employers. I help organizations improve both human and financial outcomes, through concrete strategies to hone 'empathic acuity.'
Bio
I am a native Washingtonian with a decade of leadership experience in the non-profit and for-profit sectors. I became interested in trauma work through my own journey with PTSD. I have seen the many ways trauma can impact an individual's performance, in both my personal and professional life.
I spent 5 years leading a non-profit organization dedicated to employing traumatized individuals. It was there that I saw the impact of trauma on the performance of others. I utilized trauma-informed practices every day, and believe there is a great need for these practices to become the new normal in business.
In the era of the Covid-19 pandemic the need to develop 'empathic acuity' has become pronounced. My mission is to fill in the gaps, providing instruction in trauma-informed best practices, to help organizations and the people they employ.
